Welcome to Dance Your Truth:
Movement as Medicine
Gina founded the Movement as Medicine program to combine two of her greatest passions: psychology and movement therapy. After experiencing radical internal transformation and an empowered sense of self, she created the Movement as Medicine program to share her passion with the world. Her mission as an intentional movement facilitator is to spread awareness about this profoundly healing modality with others to relieve tension, anxiety, anti-aging, enhance cognitive ability, brain balancing, sharpen proprioception, and promote inner peace and joy. This program was founded on the scientific basis of the mind-body connection, also known as somatic psychology.
Somatic therapies such as free form, lyrical, or ecstatic dance, are responsible for neurogenesis: the creation of new brain grooves in the brain. This neuroplasticity is the ability to live a new, bigger life experience by literally connecting new movement in the body with the formation of new brain cells and corresponding neural pathways.
When you move differently, you can re-wire your brain, which allows you to perceive differently, and expand your conscious ability to perceive your experiences in new ways. This is the essence of mind, body, and spirit movement. Somatic psychology states that the body and mind are inextricably linked, even going as intricate to state that the body is a bridge to access the deeper portals of the subconscious mind. Indeed, the body reflects the qualities of mind, and the mind reflects the qualities of the body; they are inseparable mirrors. This is the medicine of movement. Dance is a total mind body psychological experience, as it arouses our emotions and demands that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings.
A form of active meditation, this intentional movement style blends psychology with the joy of free form movement. This is the epitome of somatic psychology. When we allow the body to move in new spontaneous ways, we unlock the patterns of performance and open the doors to new states of being as we create new brain grooves. These new states of being are sourced from our movements into subconscious portions of the brain. We become aware of the emotions and thought patterns lurking in the limbic brain, or the primal performance brain. The newfound awareness of these emotions helps us to observe the symbolic, archetypal language of this deep brain portion. We feel this language emotionally, and experientially process these archetypal energies as the emotionally-based movements that we spiral out on the floor.
This is the future of vibrational integrative medicine and preventative medicine; using the body and its vibrations, or emotions and thoughts, as the barometer. Energy, or vibration, is the key to access our true potential and empowerment. When we dance, we sweat and detox our emotions and physical toxins, which then allows us to be activated and clear at a cellular level. Overall, the most predominant benefit of this practice is the ability to live a more abundant, passionate, liberated life of connection. This is why movement is medicine, with your body as the instrument.
